World’s Greatest Playoffs

The unique Swedish league attracts some of the best bowlers from all over the world. And the greatest part of it is the playoffs that are being held in Malmö this weekend.
- This is what you think about all year, says Cajsa Wegner of Spader Dam.

Baltiska Bowlinghallen in Malmö, the home of the Lucky Larsen Masters, will be venue to the world’s greatest playoffs 11th to the 13th of May. There Sweden’s eight best 8-man teams will battle for the trophy and the title Swedish Champions.

After 22 games during the season the four best team in the men’s highest division have qualified to be a part of the famous Swedish playoffs. The star filled Team Pergamon, from Gothenburg, won the league and have chosen to play BK Jösse from Arvika in their semifinal, which is played as the best out of three matches.

Martin Blixt, IS GötaWith three players in the top ten of the world rankings: Jesper Svensson, Martin Larsen and Dominic Barrett, the reigning champions Pergamon are favorites to win again this year. Even if their opponents, Jösse, with the legend Raymond Jansson, won 8 out of 10 games this spring
- Being favorite is something that we will have to learn to live with. On paper we have a really good team, you don’t win on paper, but we are feeling really strong, says the world number five: Martin Larsen.

The other, men’s, semifinal is between IS Göta from Helsingborg and the champions from 2016: Team Clan from Nassjö who have reached the final four years running. This year the team built, in large part, from the Swedish Bowling academy will have to beat a very experienced team to reach the finals.
- Not many teams can have a world champion on every pair of lanes, says Martin Blixt, three-time world champion and player in IS Göta.

On the women’s side the best team after 18 games was the two times reigning champions Spader DamCajsa Wegner, Spader Dam from Helsingborg. With 14 championships through the 42-year history of the Swedish league for women, European champions cup-winner Cajsa Wegner and her team chose to face legend Lena Sulkanen’s side: B-K Eva from Stockholm.
- This is what you think about all year. The goal during the entire season is to make it here, the playoffs. This is the most fun weekend all year, says Cajsa Wegner says.

Team X-Calibur, the only other team, apart from Spader Dam, who has won the gold the last 10 years, are in their semi final going to face BK Högland from Nässjö. Who with Finnish star: Sanna Pasanen flying in for the playoffs are going for gold.
- We have a silver and two bronzes, there is only one medal left. No doubt, we are going there to win, says Maria Persson, BK Högland.

In front of a crowd that you don’t see anywhere else then in the Swedish playoffs some of the greatest bowlers in the world are going to battle it out. Everything will be livestreamed for those who want to follow it but this unique event is best experienced live.
- Playoffs are always fun, it’s the best weekend of the year. I am very happy that I get to play a Swedish playoff because it’s different from everywhere else, says Pontus Andersson, Team Clan.
- It’s probably my favorite bowlingweek ever, South African Francois Louw recently said on a livestream.
