Sweden: Martin Paulsson selected Bowler of the Year 2011

Martin Paulsson has been selected Bowler of the Year 2011 by the Swedish Bowling Federation. Martin won the European Championship Masters title in Munich last summer.

Being selected Bowler of the Year for the 40-year-old Paulsson is a dream come true. He had since long put his elite career behind him when national team coach Tomas Leandersson approached him in 2008.
“I had not practiced seriously for six-seven years and was playing league games just for fun,” Martin said.
After some persuasion, he decided to give it a try.

At age 38, he made his first appearance in the Swedish national team during the European Men´s Championships in Aalborg in 2009. One year later he and his good friend Mathias Årup captured the doubles gold medal at the Men´s World Championship in Munich.
Returning to Dream Bowl Palace in Munich last summer, Paulsson came up with another stunning performance when he won the Masters gold medal.

After three years on Team Sweden, he acknowledges that his victories are the product of intense practice during this period.
“My game has changed a lot. I have practiced harder than ever during this period. If someone had told me that I would spend time in a gym, I would have laughed, but it is one of those things that I have done regularly,” Martin said.
“Even the quality of my worst performances has improved and I have learned to deal with the more challenging lane patterns. Before I was ineffective when it came to playing the outside line, but I have learned to adapt to the short oil patterns,” Martin said.

Looking to the future, his goal is to make it to the World Championships in Las Vegas in 2013.
