Partille, outside Gothenburg, regained the throne as Swedens best bowling city after this weekend’s Swedish playoffs. In front of a massive, singing, jumping and drumming crowd Team Pergamon and Team X-Calibur won the men’s and women’s Swedish championships, eight-man teams, respectively.

Team PergamonThe star filled Team Pergamon with three players on the top five World Bowling-ranking with Jesper Svensson, Dominic Barrett and Martin Larsen where the favorite to win the men’s title. But the way they did it impressed everybody, including their opponents in the final, the winners from two years ago: Team Clan from Nässjö with the Swedish national team member Pontus Andersson.
- They are so good. It feels like the distance between the best team in Sweden and the second best has increased since last year, he says.

“Bowling’s Real Madrid”, as they are dubbed, thumped Team Clan, with Irish star Chris Sloan, 19 – 1 in the first final match, in best of three. In the second game Clan got to choose the pattern, which they then completely destroyed to get their world class opponents to get as little to play on as possible. But it didn’t work and Pergamon took the gold thanks to a 13 – 7 win.
- We show how good we are as a bowling team, says the seven-time PBA champion Jesper Svensson, the lanes got really tough, but we find a solution. We have to much competence in this team that it doesn’t bother us. We show that we are the best team in Sweden.

On the female side we got to see the closest battle for the title in a long, long time. All four teams thatTeam X-Calibur qualified for the playoffs in Malmö all put in a good bid for a place in the final. But when the Sunday came along it was Spader Dam, from Helsingborg, and Team X-Calibur who stood on the lanes, like in the last five finals.
- I don’t think it has ever been this close between all four teams here, said Team X-Caliburs Joline Perssson Planefors.

And the final was as close as the rest of the weekend. Spader Dam, who won the last two championships, won the first game. Team X-Calibur countered and won the second one. And after three out of the four games in the third, deciding game, the score was 7 – 7. And after a whole season it all came down to a single game.
- We were really good at striking in the final frames, said Joline Persson Planefors, the 27 year old who finished with a 256 in the last game, helping her Team X-Calibur to win the last game 3-1 and the game with 10-8.
- I don’t think I have words to describe how good this fells, she says after the win.
- It’s amazing to be on the winning side in such a close game, says Diana Alfredsson of X-Calibur.

The Swedish playoffs were, as usual, a fantastic success with Swedish national television being there to capture the unbelievable atmosphere created by all the teams supporters who sing, drum and make noise three days in a row to make some of the best bowlers in the world up their game even more. It is truly the worlds greatest playoffs.
- Our fans make this experience what it is, they are our 10th, 11th and 12th player. They make us want to do even better on the lanes, says Jesper Svensson.
